Sam's story

I started in construction at 15, working on buildings in Gaza and Cairo. I learned the trade from the ground up: concrete, framing, tile, finishing. I came to the United States more than 20 years ago and have been building in Houston for almost 20 of them.

Over those years I saw the same thing again and again. A homeowner picks the lowest number, and then the change orders start. By the end they have paid more than the honest estimate, and the work is worse. I started American Federal Construction to do it the other way: price the job properly once, and build it properly.

What we believe

• The price doesn't change unless the work changes. You get 1 written price before we start.
• Return on happiness. Spend where you'll notice it every day, not on names and labels.
• The details nobody sees still matter. Waterproofing, framing and drainage get the same care as the tile.
• Every budget gets the same standard. A $15,000 bathroom is built as carefully as a $200,000 kitchen.

The tile story

On a tight-budget house, I installed large marble-look shower tiles. Most installers would set them in any order. I couldn't leave the veins mismatched, so I lined up every tile so the pattern flowed like a real slab of stone. It cost me more time and more tile. It is exactly what I would do on a job 10 times the price.

How we work

Texas does not license general contractors, but every tradesperson on our jobs holds the Texas licence for their trade: plumbers, electricians and HVAC. We carry over $1 million in bonding and general liability insurance. Every job comes with a written warranty.

What we build

Kitchens, master bathrooms, foundation repair, house elevation and new homes, across south Houston, the Bay Area and 12 Houston neighbourhoods.
